ADVANCED ORAL HEALTH

Red Light Therapy

I love red light therapy, and it is part of my daily practice. Red light is known for its topical benefits, like reducing inflammation in the skin, increasing skin elasticity, helping to heal wounds, and improving or helping to prevent fine lines and wrinkles. The infrared light is great for deeper healing and can boost our mitochondrial function. Our mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells, so better mitochondrial function equals more energy.

Vielight

This is intranasal red light therapy. Similar to standard red light therapy in terms of benefiting the mitochondria, this actually shoots the light up the nose to boost the mitochondrial health of your brain. The device also stimulates either alpha waves (10 Hz—focused and relaxed) or gamma waves (40 Hz—focused and alert).

NanoVi

This is another daily biohack for me! The NanoVi device helps decrease oxidative stress and benefits protein activities in the body. I use the NanoVi to accelerate recovery, increase mental acuity, enhance energy levels, and improve sleep.

Hyperbaric Oxygen

Although this is not new, I feel it is finally getting some of the recognition it deserves. Hyperbaric combines pure oxygen and pressure, which drives the oxygen deep into the cells. Hyperbaric is a great recovery tool for the brain. If you have had any sort of brain trauma, iI use it to improve my cognition and overall health. Hyperbaric boxygen ot can also increase wound healing increase the length of telomeres, and even skin biopsies have been taken before and after a set of hyperbaricb oxygen ot sessions, and the skin is younger.

Pulse Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) Therapy

This can be a helpful therapy for reducing inflammation, improving heart rate variability, and helping with athletic recovery. PEMF mimics natural healing frequencies from the earth. We know the benefits of grounding are backed by science, and PEMF offers even more intense healing frequencies.

Ozone Therapy

Ozone therapy has been used in medicine for over 150 years. It is a powerful yet little-known therapy for a variety of ailments. Ozone is antibacterial and antiviral, can improve oxygen efficiency and circulation, and can support your immune system. Ozone can also be injected into joints for expedited healing. Ozone is used in dentistry for oral health. (I use an ozone gum oil on my gums several times a week from Simplyo3SimplyO3.). Ozone can also be used intravenously through a one- or ten-pass ozone machine. At our clinic, we use this to support our clients who have conditions like mold toxicity, autoimmune disorders, or any viruses.

Ozone can also be used in a sauna capacity. At my clinic, we have a device called the HOCATT (Hyperthermic Ozone and Carbonic Acid Transdermal Therapy) ozone sauna. It looks like a spaceship pod that your head sticks out of. It entails a 30-minute session that combines ozone, steam heat, PEMF, and light therapy. The heat opens up your pores, allowing the ozone to seep in. We use this device for autoimmune conditions, improving stress resilience (ozone is a hermetic stressor) for skin health, and more. If you are looking to use ozone therapy at home, you have to be careful, as ozone cannot be breathed in and directly transmitted to the lungs. I use at-home devices from my friend Micha at Simplyo3SimplyO3. Their at-home devices can be used rectally for systemic benefit; used to make ozone water, which may help gut health; used through ear insufflation; and more.

IV Therapy

Intravenous (IV) therapy is another powerful tool that may help you optimize your health. They are not needed for good health, but because I have the access to these great IVs at my clinic, I use them frequently. IV therapy is beneficial because you are absorbing 100 percent of the nutrients, whereas when we take supplements, we are able to absorb only around 30 percent of the nutrients, depending on the health of our gut. Here are some of my personal favorite IVs.

Curcumin

Curcumin is the active compound in turmeric, and we know that it has potent anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin IVs are one of the most potent and natural anti-inflammatories on the market. As we spoke about in the nutrition section of this book, inflammation is the root cause of nearly every disease, and if you have inflammation in the body, you have inflammation in the brain, so managing inflammation is critical for better health. Before receiving curcumin infusions, it’s best to check your C-reactive protein (CRP) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels to understand your levels of inflammation. Then, like all great biohackers, you can measure your data and confirm the benefits of these infusions yourself.

NAD+

Many leaders in the longevity world tout the benefits of NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, a coenzyme). David Sinclair, for example, is an Australian biologist who is a professor of genetics and co-director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for Biology of Aging Research at Harvard Medical School. He is known for his research on aging with a focus on epigenetics.

I believe that NAD+ is arguably one of the most restorative and powerful anti-aging treatments currently available. Without it, our body can’t function properly. We need NAD+ to live. It is estimated by the age of 40 that up to 50 percent of NAD+ stores have been depleted, and by the age of 60, up to 80 percent, so repleting restoring levels of NAD+ has widespread benefits. A powerful dose can greatly improve your energy levels, neurological function (including learning and memory), protect your cells and DNA from damage, restore balance to your neurotransmitters, detox your systems after substance abuse, promote mitochondrial integrity (energy-producing capacity of our cells), and even improve your sleep and mood.

The protocol that I use : Ois, once a year, I do five NAD+ IVs (750 mlmilliliters) IVs within the span of ten days. From there, I support my NAD+ with an IV every month or so and daily NAD+ injections.

Methylene Blue

Methylene blue improves memory by increasing brain cell respiration, or how each brain cell utilizes oxygen. It increases ATP production to provide more cellular energy for better overall brain function, including cognition, mood, and memory. In addition, methylene blue is a powerful antioxidant.

Blue Light Blockers

We are being bombarded by blue light—from our phones and electronic devices to the lighting in our homes. Blue light blockers are an inexpensive way to support your circadian rhythm, protect your eyes, combat fatigue, and possibly improve your sleep. There are two primary options for blue light blockers, and I use them both: One one is the glasses with orange or yellow lenses for use during the day, which mitigate the effects of the blue light from your computer and other devices while still allowing some blue light though so your body is not confused into thinking it is time for bed. The other option is the glasses with red lenses, which block all blue light. I use these a few hours prior to bed when I am in my pre-sleep routine. They fully block the blue light and signal to your body that it is time for bed.

Peptides

Peptides are another incredible new tool that can be used to help expedite your healing and optimal health journey. Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Chains of fewer than 20 amino acids are called oligopeptides and include dipeptides, tripeptides, and tetrapeptides. A polypeptide is a longer, continuous, unbranched peptide chain. To date, scientists have discovered over 7,000 peptides in nature, many of them naturally occurring in humans. In your body, these peptides facilitate numerous processes, such as:

  • · Hormone production and signaling

  • · Communications between cells

  • · Wound and tissue healing and regeneration

  • · Immune functions

  • · Metabolic functions

  • · Brain and neurological functions

  • · Physical and cognitive performance

  • · Reproduction and sexual health

  • · Anti-aging processes, such as autophagy and sirtuin pathways

  • · Mitochondrial function

  • · Anabolic processes such as muscle building

  • · Sleep and circadian rhythm

Personally, I have used peptides for years, and we offer them at my clinic. I typically am on two peptides, our super mito fitness peptide— which combines NAD+, Mots-C, and Humanin— and our performance peptide, which combines. CJC 1295/ Hexarelin, Epithalone (Epitalon), Pinealon, CJC 1295/Ipamorelin, and BPC-157.

Here are a few popular peptides:

BPC-157

Beneficial for:  Immune support, inflammation balancing, wound healing, analgesic, gut health,

 Aantioxidant.

CJC-1295

Beneficial for: Mmetabolism, muscle building, sleep quality, anti-aging.

GHK-Cu

Beneficial for: Immune support, inflammation balancing, wound healing, anti-aging, beauty.

Humanin

Beneficial for: Mitochondrial health, metabolism, anti-aging, brain health, cell protection, inflammation balancing.

MOTS-c

Beneficial for: Mitochondria health, metabolism, anti-aging, hormone balance, brain health, anti-inflammatory.

Hydrogen Water

This is another water biohack, in addition to, of course, high-quality filtered water. Hydrogen water has antioxidant properties that combat free radicals in the body. Research also indicates that hydrogen has anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce oxidative stress.

Stem Cells

This innovative treatment is not FDA approved, but true to the biohacker that I am, I have definitely had stem cells. I call stem cells “master cells” because most stem cells can turn into any other cell in the body. For example, if you need heart cells, stem cells can turn into heart cells to fulfill the need. I have received both umbilical stem cells and VSELs (Very Small Embryonic-Like stem cells). Stem cells may help reduce inflammation, repair damaged ligaments and tendons, and much more. I am blessed to know many of the top stem cell practitioners in the country and have had the privilege of visiting their clinics. Do your own research of course, because this can be an expensive treatment.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Why age the same way everyone else does if we do not have to? A natural part of the aging process is hormonal decline. (As a side note, testosterone levels in men are at an all-time low—even for young men. Testosterone levels have been declining about 1 percent each year since 1980.) At my clinic, we use bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. We draw labs to have an accurate read on your current hormone levels and then supplement them to optimal levels so that you can maintain the endurance, libido, and drive you had when you were younger into later years. We offer both female and male hormone replacement therapy. This helps our patients sleep better, have more energy and sex drive, and continue to gain muscle mass into their later years.
